FAQs

Antiques Versus New Furniture

Q. I like antiques, but aren’t antiques more expensive than new furniture?

A. For sure antiques are more expensive than Levitz or IKEA. Compare quality antiques with comparable quality new furnishings and you will find that you will pay more for new than antique. If you like antiques, price compare quality for quality with new furniture before buying.

Q. I have a top quality dining room set we purchased just a couple years ago. Will you allow me to trade it in for an antique set from your store?

A. No, not even for 10% of what you paid for it. There is simply little resale value for even the best used furniture.

Q. Give me the general bottom line of what antiques will be worth versus new furniture, say, in 10 years?

A. In 10 years, you will be fortunate to get even 10% of what you paid for even the best quality new furniture. If antiques do what they have done the past 10 years (likely they will do better), even if you sold to a dealer or liquidated at an auction, you might expect that you will receive back cash on cash somewhere around  approximately 50% of your original investment. This assumes the worst case where you liquidate at auction or sell to a dealer. If you sell directly to an end consumer like yourself, you most likely will make a profit.
